These instructions assume PC is joined to the WIN domain and user is authenticated on WIN account. To connect to a file share from a PC outside of the WIN domain, view the non-WIN domain instructions.
Map a network drive using the following path where <dept> is one of the departments: (bio, chm, cs, gsc, mat, phy):
\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\<dept>\
For Example, the biology department file
share is at:
\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\bio\
From here, all four folders within the <dept> folder can be seen.
For Example, the Biology professor John Henry Doe uses
\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\bio\fac\jhdoe
\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\<dept>\staff\<username>
Where <dept> is one of the departments: (bio, chm, cs, gsc, mat, phy)
For Example, John Henry Doe working for the Biology department
uses
\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\bio\staff\jhdoe
User's home directory (Z:) should be pointed to their share directory. This will be handled by department techs and will be setup on PC laptops. If users also use intranet share, it is suggested to map this drive as "W:" for "Web."
Note: For those receiving a Dell laptop, this process will have already been completed by the department tech.
To connect user’s share directory to the home directory (Z:) right-click on My Computer, and select “Map Network Drive.”

Under “Drive:” select “Z:”, and for “Folder:”
select user’s file share directory.

If your Windows 2000/XP PC is not part of the WIN domain, or you are logged on with a local account, and not your "WIN" account, you may have to "Connect using a different username" and input "win\<username>."
Map a network drive, but before clicking "Finish," click the "Connect using a different username" link.

*Note: The above screen shows "win.csupomona.edu\dean" in the
Folder field,
but this should be replaced with the user's file share directory
as explained in the Personal Share Instructions.
This screen allows the user to enter an alternative username and password.

If the PC is outside of the WIN domain, an "Incorrect Password" message will be dsiplayed. The user must enter the following path, entering "win\" before the username:
win\<username>
The PC will then successfully map the network drive.
