sci-files.win.csupomona.edu
You can access your personal file share from home or while on travel. Connection will be slower than when on campus: wired or wireless home internet service is slower than CPP network, and VPN encrypts traffic which slows down connection further. VPN is required to get through CPP firewall.
- Establish an internet connection via wired or wireless connection.
Make sure this works before connecting to Cal Poly, e.g. browse some web pages, etc.
- Connect to Cal Poly VPN
- You may already have VPN setup (Network Connections in Control Panel). See
http://www.csupomona.edu/~ehelp/vpn/
for details on VPN setup.

- VPN uses your network password, not e-mail password. If you aren’t sure what your network password is, you can reset it in your intranet configuration here:
http://www.csupomona.edu/intranet/services (configure your account)
Network password cannot be reset to match your e-mail password on the intranet configuration page!
- Map Z: (or other letter) drive to \\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\dept\fac\username , where dept and username are your dept and username.
- Example:
\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\bio\fac\jnbaskin
- Right-click on “My Network Places
”, then left-click “Map Network Drive.”

- Assign any free drive letter: (My Documents is mapped to Z: for many Cal Poly PCs, so that’s a good choice.)
- Folder should be
\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\dept\fac\username If “win.csupomona.edu”
is not in TCP/IP DNS search path, you may have to connect using IP address as in second example.
- Uncheck box “Reconnect at Login.” – this is only for office PC.
- “Connect using a different user name”…use this syntax:
“win\username” then enter your e-mail password.

- Ex: I would put in “win\bvnorum” as my username and then enter my e-mail password.
- Click on Finish.
- You should see folders in Z: (or other letter you assigned) if all went well.
