File Server Details

Introduction

The College of Science provides a dedicated file server for faculty and staff data storage. The file server is accessible to Windows PCs and Macs running OSX. A personal file share with an initial quota of 10 GB has been created for each user.

SCI-FILES has a 6.8TB RAID 6 disk array and is backed-up nightly.

Many users realize the benefits of using this as primary storage: 1) user data in one location eliminates confusion of multiple copies, 2) available on- and off-campus, 3) robust backup system with daily schedule, 4) failover server eliminates rebuild time in case of hardware failure.

Path to Personal File Share

Windows:

\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\<dept>\<fac or staff>\<username>

Example: \\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\mat\fac\mlgreen

Mac OSX:

smb://sci-files.win.csupomona.edu/<dept>/<fac or staff>/<username>

Example: smb://sci-files.win.csupomona.edu/chm/fac/laalex

Each department or program within the college has its own file share:

\\sci-files.win.csupomona.edu\<dept>\

Where <dept> is one of the departments: bio, chm, cs, gsc, mat, or phy.

Folders in sci-files

Each department has four main directories:

common is an area available for all users within the department.
dept or dept_office is designed to hold any files relevant to the department office.
fac holds personal directories for faculty members.
staff holds personal directories for staff members.
Additional folders may be added upon request.
