Goal: We initiated a New Teaching Associate Orientation Course (BIO 575) that will promote better teaching effectiveness among TAs with little or no teaching experience. This course is offered for the first time this fall, coordinated by myself. As part of this course, we intend to develop a mechanism for mid-quarter timely fashion, so that they will have time to reflect on, possibly improve, their teaching style or performance before the end of their first quarter. I am seeking support to develop a teaching evaluation or assessment mechanism with a quick turn around time, so TAs have an opportunity to act upon the results of their evaluation before the quarter is over. To achieve a short response time, I plan to utilize a specialized optical scanner and software system (Scantron Parscore System).
